Depop is a virtual shopping platform where users can sell and buy vintage and second-hand clothing. With a similar user design approach to Instagram, the explore feed on Depop curates items according to the user’s interests. In addition to buying and selling, users can explore styles and set trends. Unlike other social resale clothing apps, Depop sets itself apart from its competitors with its low barrier for entry and Gen Z cult following. This digital marketplace is a freeform space that allows people to build their own marketplaces from the ground up.
Working remotely in collaboration with Kara Philipovich, we created an animation that could be effectively translated across different platforms and devices. Inspired by the feed of the Depop app, we explored how we could feature a scrolling movement while presenting different images of clothing items with textures from of our own closets. Film texture and dynamic text animations layer to grab the attention of a young, contemporary audience with a love for nostalgic trends. I contributed the text animations for the first two sections of the video, finetuned the animation timing, and reformatted the animation for the different screen sizes.
